It is good to hear from you. I waited until I saw the movies before responding to your questionnaire. Perhaps there will be different question soon, once more people have seen the film?

I went to see the movie with a large group of Americans and Japanese. Our consensus seemed to be that the film tried to avoid blaming anybody... from Japanese leaders to American admirals. In doing so, the film managed to make itself boring. The attack scenes, of course, were spectacular, but everything else was fairly mundane.

The first scene with the Japanese mentioned that America has "cut off our oil" without any historical context. The film also left the fate of the Doolittle fliers out of its historical notes at the end, omitting that several were tried as war criminals, not merely imprisoned as POWs.

On the flip side, the film showed the aftermath of the Pearl Harbor attack without similar close-up scenes of civilians killed and wounded in the Doolittle raid.
